This booklet has been written with over 25 year’s experience of designing, installing and maintaining airbrakes on Narrow Gauge passenger stock. Firstly from 1979 onwards at the late lamented Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway at Humberston and secondly on the GVLR since its inception.

The text takes the reader through all the considerations needed, to design and install an efficient, practical and safe braking system, for passenger stock on a NG railway. The reader is also taken through all the constituent parts of the braking system and how each individual part works. To help the reader fully understand the text, 15 diagrams have also been included.
