How do I get to the GVLR?


The Narrow Gauge Railway is located on the main Museum site at the Midland Railway - Butterley. It can be accessed via Butterley Station which is situated one mile north of Ripley [Derbyshire] on the B6179. Please visit the Midland Railway - Butterley's web site for further detailed directions on bus, rail or road travel.

When do trains run on the GVLR?

Trains run every Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday from the beginning of April to the end of October, except the occasional Saturday when the Midland Railway - Butterley is closed. Trains also run during the Easter, Whit and Summer school holidays. more details....

At what times do the trains operate?

Passenger services commence at 12:30 hours and thereafter run at 45 minute intervals until 16:15 hours. Trains depart Butterley Park Station, on the main Museum site, to Newlands Inn Station and return. more details....

What is the cost of a return ticket?

Adults £1-50 / Children 50p / Children under five years old - free. This is in addition to the Midland Railway - Butterley train fare. more details....
